Updating Your Modern Sliding Wardrobe Ready for Any Season

Moving into a new season is the perfect opportunity to organise your wardrobe and get everything sorted in time for a change in the weather. Over time, we can all become a little bit guilty of neglecting our wardrobes – from shoving clothes in rather than hanging them up to chucking shoes in there with no real structure or organisation.

When your wardrobe is organised, everything is so much easier to find. Do you ever find yourself rummaging through your wardrobe in the morning trying to find your favourite jumper, only to make a huge mess and settle with having to wear something else? When you take the time to properly declutter and organise your wardrobe, you’ll know the exact location of all of your favourite clothes, making mornings less stressful and ensuring that you can always easily find your clothes. Below, we share our top tips on how to organise and update your wardrobe.

Consider sliding bedroom wardrobe doors

If you’re tired of your messy wardrobe and you struggle to keep it tidy and organised, a sliding wardrobe can be a great addition to your bedroom. Modern sliding wardrobes are available in a range of different designs that perfectly complement any bedroom, with a variety of different frames and panels to choose from.

Installing a sliding wardrobe in your room can help you to stay more organised. Sliding wardrobes can be fitted from floor to ceiling, enabling you to customise your storage to meet your needs. Shelves, racks and additional compartments can be fitted and installed as you wish, helping you to stay on top of all of your belongings and organise your wardrobe accordingly. Sliding wardrobes can fit in small spaces, making them especially ideal for those who have a small bedroom but lots of clothes.

Tips for organising your sliding wardrobe

Have a big clear out

Before you attempt to organise your wardrobe, it’s a good idea to have a big clear out. We all have pieces of clothing in the back of our wardrobe that we never wear, and now is the time to get rid of them. After all, they’re just taking up precious space when someone else could be enjoying them. Whether it’s old hats that have gone out of fashion, belts that you never use or jumpers and jeans that simply no longer fit, getting rid of them will free up space.

Make two different piles, ‘Sell’ and ‘Donate’, and sort through your clothes accordingly. As a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t worn a piece of clothing in the last year and you can’t imagine wearing it in the next year, it’s time to get rid of it (unless it’s sentimental, of course).

Sort your items into categories

It’s usually much easier to find items when they’re sorted into different categories – whether it’s by different colours, seasons or items of clothing. Take everything out of your wardrobe (yes, everything!) and lay it all out in front of you so that you can see all of your items.

Dedicate different shelves or racks to different categories to make everything easier to get to. We recommend organising your clothing by type, for example, shirts, skirts, jackets, trousers, work clothing and special clothing (for example, formal wear).

Store everything correctly

To ensure that your clothes stay in top condition, it’s important that you store your clothes correctly in your wardrobe. Tops and blouses should be hung up as folding them can cause them to wrinkle or crease. It’s also important that you hang up lightweight dresses to keep them wrinkle-free. Heavy sweaters, however, can be folded and stacked. If it’s summer and you don’t need your jumpers or sweaters, consider keeping them folded in plastic storage bins to keep them out of the way. Jeans can be either folded or hung up, however, you should always hang up easily wrinkled trousers – for example, work trousers, nice trousers or long, flowing skirts.

Invest in a wardrobe organiser

The best way to utilise the space in your wardrobe is to purchase some organisational tools to help you get everything tidy and organised. As well as hanging clothes on the rail in your wardrobe, consider adding containers, dividers, hooks and racks too. Attaching adhesive hooks to the doors of your wardrobe provides the perfect space to hang scarves, pieces of jewellery and belts. There are lots of wardrobe organisers available, providing you with an effective storage solution that allows you to utilise the space.

Use clear containers to store and stack your shoes; they’ll be kept safe and out of the way but you can still see which shoes are in which box for when you need them.

Regularly maintain your wardrobe

In order to stay on top of your wardrobe and ensure that it remains tidy and organised, it’s important that you regularly take the time to maintain it. Each month, set aside some time to go through your wardrobe and put everything back in its correct place – it’s highly likely that some items will have been moved around over the weeks. Take the time to regularly clean your wardrobe too to prevent dust from settling on your clothes and dirt building up.

When you buy new items of clothing, it may be worth having a little reshuffle. If you find that you simply don’t have enough space for all of your clothes, it’s worth trying out the one-in-one-out method. If you buy a new piece of clothing, make sure that you give an older piece of clothing to charity. This way, you’ll always have some space available.

Add lights in your wardrobe

This may sound a little unnecessary, but adding lighting in your wardrobe can make it much easier to see and find everything you need. Adding some brightness to your wardrobe ensures that you can find everything you need more easily, preventing you from having to dig through piles of jumpers or rummage through boxes simply because you can’t properly see what’s in them.
